Many women chose or were forced to become housewives in the past when childcare and housework were considered feminine responsibilities and women were the reproductive workers. Now, women's self-awareness has made them independent; they have their own employment, but many women still do the majority of the housework. They have a "dual duty" as wage labourers and domestic workers. I've created small sculptures based on the reproduction of labour by mixing the uterus and kitchen utensils.I have considered them as separate sculptures and also brought them into my kitchen as real Kitchenware in my practice. The idea I want to express is the relationship between women and reproduction work.
I focus on the general lack of recognition of the value of reproductive work performed by women in China, and how societal pressures and expectations shape their choices and decision-making. I draw on personal experiences, historical contexts, and my own research to investigate how society stigmatizes and objectifies women through various forms of discrimination, such as the devaluation of housewives, the criticism of women who choose not to marry or have children, and other forms of gender-based discrimination.
