The Last Egg

"The last egg" implies a sense of "finality" and "urgency", as if in danger of being lost and depleted. It paradoxically emphasises the cyclical nature of the female reproductive system, which expels one egg per month. The title is also ironic in that it challenges traditional notions of the social pressures placed on contemporary women by traditional gender roles, encourages women to make their own personal fertility choices, and raises awareness of the importance of supporting women's rights.

The artist explores the phenomenon of contemporary female fertility, delving into the trends of delayed childbirth and non-childbearing among Chinese women while exploring past and future female issues around 'egg freezing'. "Egg Freezing" offers women the possibility of retaining their reproductive options, a means by which they can control the timing of their fertility and an expression of women's right to control their fertility. However, the requirements for egg freezing in China, or in many other countries, are extremely demanding and women are not allowed to freeze their eggs for non-medical reasons. In contrast to women, there are no rules for men in relation to the option of freezing sperm, discussing this on a gender level, is this a form of gender inequality?
